The Fred P. Wilken Training Center

The Fred. P. Wilken Training Center was dedicated in September 2003 for its founder, Fred Wilken. It is a non-profit training center that features EMT Basic and Refresher courses, CPR courses, and Defensive Driving courses.

Fred has served the Flatlands community with distinction for 21 years now, including as our Training Officer from March 1991 to December 2004. Fred has also served as First Lieutenant, Quartermaster, Safety Officer and on FVAC's Board of Directors.

Congrats to Fred for being re-elected as our Training Officer for 2007!!!

Emergency Medical Technician

FVAC is sponsoring an EMT Basic Original course that started on October 18, 2009 and is ending on May 20, 2009. Classes are being held on Sundays from 9:30 am to 5 pm. Course tution is $850.00. The state certifying exam is being held on May 20, 2009.

These courses are not offered by Flatlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps and no representation is made with regard to any of them. Course information was received from the course sponsors through REMSCO and/or NYSVARA. Some course announcements may indicate REMSCO approval for CME credit. If you have any question it is recommended that you confirm any information with the course sponsor and/or REMSCO.

FVAC held a CME on Effective Airway Management, which was hosted by Doctor David Lobel, Emergency Medicine Attending Physician / EMS Medical Director at Maimonides Medical Center, on Thursday, July 17, 2008. 21 Paramedics / EMTs attended the event.

Objective Safety, on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from 7:30 to 11 pm.

FVAC held a CME on Monday, September 12, 2005, on Atypical Cardiac Presentation. Additional information is still available HERE.


The Flatlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps held a CME on Monday, March 14, 2005, on Weapons of Mass Destruction: "The Homeland Security Course". Many thanks to former FVAC EMT, Police Officer Joseph Zayas, for an informative presentation. 20 EMTs and Paramedics attented the event. The CME flyer is still available for review HERE.
